HOW MUCH TIME IT WILL TAKE YOU:

When it comes to museums, the time it takes is mostly up to you! Whether you want to take your time in one or have a full-blown museum day, the choice is yours! To fully see each museum can take between 1.5 (Ex: Art Brut) to 3 hours (ex: Platform 10). All of the museums are around the main city center, so allocate at least 30-40 minutes for transport between museums in total if you plan to visit all three.

WHAT IT IS:

Missing fine art? Want more enriching visuals to look at during the day? Need a date idea? Lucky for you, Lausanne is home to several museums, filled with artwork ranging from local Swiss aficionados to world-renowned artists like Monet and Manet. Some of them specialize in photography, others in sculpture...there is something for everyone! Today, we will only be listing three museums that have a bit of variety but feel free to look into Lausanne’s many other beautiful and historical museums.

Platform 10 will soon be the epicenter for most art in Lausanne. It is already home to the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts. It will soon be the new home of Lausanne’s premiere photography museum, Musée de l'Elysée, in November (if you’re staying until then, you’ll be here for the grand opening!) The museum displays many art mediums: paintings, photography, sculpture, and video! Here you will currently find temporary exhibits from painter Maurice Denis and sculptor Rodin. But hurry fast, these will end on 16 May!

Fondation de l'Hermitage is one of Lausanne’s private (so, never free) museums located in a beautiful and grand historical home in Hermitage Park. This museum often exhibits private painting collections. Currently, they are displaying a private collection that features over 100 paintings, with work from artists like Monet, Matisse, and Modigliani.

Collection de l'Art Brut is Lausanne’s museum for artists that are not well-known in Switzerland. It is meant to show more “outsider” work.  The art here tends to be less mainstream so if you are an artist looking for inspiration, maybe this the place for you!

Other notable mentions:

Hand Museum located in CHUV

Olympic Museum near Ouchy
