- For a challenging hike:
- Outward: Lausanne -> St-Cergue (~1h10-1h40)
- Return: St-Cergue -> Lausanne (~1h10-1h40)
- For a chill hike:
- Outward: Lausanne -> St-Cergue (~1h10-1h40)
- Return: La Givrine -> Lausanne (~1h20-1h50)
WHAT IT IS:
You can opt for one of the following itineraries depending on your motivation/hiking experience:
Itinerary 1: challenger hike to “Cabane du Carroz-Jura” (5-6h)
Take the train from Lausanne to Nyon (Interregio to Genève-Aéroport), then from Nyon to St-Cergue. Depending on the season, we recommend you to leave around 10.
From the station, walk beside the road towards la Givrine. When you see a ski lift (next to a car park), turn right and continue up towards Cabane du Carroz-Jura. There, you will enjoy a stunning view on the lake and the Alps. Matterhorn and Dents du Midi are usually more visible in the spring, whereas the Mont-Blanc is easier to spot during the winter (before the trees grow back).
Depending on the conditions, we suggest you picnic before the Cabane du Carroz-Jura, there are a few picnic areas along the way.
On the way back, you can either take the same route, or walk down via la Genolière and Cabane du Rochefort.
Itinerary 2: chill hike to “Cabane Rochefort” (3-4h)
From the train station, walk to Basse-Ruche, before heading for a forest path towards the Fruitières de Nyon. After that, go to the Cabane du Rochefort, where you can enjoy a picnic with a view.
You can finally come back down to La Givrine, where you will take the return train to Lausanne.
HOW TO GET THERE:
The journey takes 1h-1h30 (so 2-3h for a round-trip). A first train will take you to Nyon, and a smaller regional train brings you to St-Cergue.
